Vehicle Transfer Notification
TxDMV advises a seller to file a Vehicle Transfer Notification. When filed within 30 days of the sale, TxDMV says the seller receives protection from responsibility for parking tickets and toll violations committed by the purchaser. The notification updates the motor vehicle record to show that the vehicle was sold and does not replace the buyer’s title application.
Texas trailer documentation can differ. TxDMV states that a manufactured trailer over 4,000 pounds gross weight must be titled. At 4,000 pounds gross weight or less, titling is generally optional unless the trailer was previously titled. Registration requirements still apply.
